Auckland volcanoes could erupt together
Five of Auckland's volcanoes could be in danger of erupting at the same time. That is according to a study released today. The Auckland University study shows Puketutu, Crater Hill, Wiri, Mt Richmond and Taylor Hill erupted within years of each other.
Dr John Cassidy's research also suggests Auckland could be at risk of future simultaneous multiple eruptions. He says the research was done by studying volcanic rocks which have recorded unusual disturbances in the Earth's magnetic field.
